Today, representatives of the LGBTQ+ community are the category of clients of social workers who need increased attention due to a number of related problems and lack of experience in social work with them. The taboo of the existence of LGBTQ+, the existence of stereotypes and discrimination against them, the possibility of developing depression or suicidal tendencies determine the relevance of the discussed topic. The purpose of the article is to analyze the experience of social work with representatives of the LGBTQ+ community in the USA and to develop a recommendation for the development of this direction of social work in Ukraine. The authors made a short tour of the formation of social work with sexual minorities in the USA, emphasized the importance of active public support in the struggle for the observance of rights and the formation of a tolerant attitude towards representatives of the LGBTQ+ community. The main techniques of working with LGBTQ+ clients are described: individual counseling, group support, work with families and the closest environment. The basic principles of gay positive practice (GAP) implementation are also revealed: emotional and intellectual competence, practical environment, respectful language, use of open-ended questions. Problematic moments in the practice of social work with the LGBTQ+ community in the USA have been identified. The current state of social work with the LGBTQ+ community in Ukraine is characterized by a critical analysis of existing legislation and existing practices. Recommendations for improving the process of social support for this population category have been developed, taking into account the experience of the USA.References
