The article examines one of the most acute social problems of our time - violence against women in the context of gender stereotypes that are deeply rooted in culture, public consciousness and everyday practices. It is emphasized that despite formal achievements in the field of human rights, including the updating of legislation and the activation of international initiatives, in many societies, in particular in Ukraine, a high tolerance for gender-based violence remains. Particular attention is paid to the social nature of gender stereotypes, which are formed and reproduced through the institutions of the family, education, media, religion and culture.
The types of stereotypes - household, professional, behavioral, bodily and status - are analyzed, their impact on the formation of ideas about "normal" female behavior and their role in the legitimization of violence. The article is based on an interdisciplinary approach, combining sociological, psychological, cultural and legal perspectives. The mechanisms of stereotype internalization, the phenomenon of victim blaming, the role of mass culture and traditional narratives in normalizing aggression against women are considered. Special emphasis is placed on the post-conflict context of Ukraine: the war has increased women's vulnerability to various forms of violence, led to deepening economic and social dependence, and complicated access to help. It is confirmed that violence against women is systemic in nature and requires a comprehensive approach to prevention and response.
The article presents modern models of social work with women who have experienced violence, emphasizing the importance of an individualized approach, multidisciplinary support, work with the family and the aggressor, as well as gender education in communities. Effective practices are described, in particular, campaigns against violence, preventive programs in educational institutions, and the activities of crisis centers. It is argued that only intersectoral interaction – with the participation of social workers, educators, law enforcement officers, public organizations and the media – can ensure a systematic response to gender-based violence. The article emphasizes the strategic importance of combating gender stereotypes as a condition for building an inclusive and safe society.
