Introduction. Medicinal plants have been used as a source of therapies since ancient times in Egypt. The present study was designed to investigate the anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant activity of different extracts from 20 selected medicinal plants of Egypt. Materials and methods. The disk diffusion method followed by microbroth dilution were used to determine minimum inhibitory concentration of the plant extracts against 10 bacterial strains belonging to 5 species, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes. While qualitative phytochemical screening followed by DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) assay were used to assess the anti-oxidant of the extracts. Results. The results indicated that all studied crude extracts were able to inhibit the growth of at least three of the tested bacteria. Moreover, all studied plants have various bioactive phyto-chemicals and were observed to be high to moderate antioxidant agents. Conclusion. Finally, the target of this paper is to describe the most interesting plant extracts investigated here to be alternative medicines.
