The article presents the results of an experimental study of the psychological
readiness of expectant mothers to perform parental duties. The basic stages of
the experiment are described: ascertaining experiment (the determination of
expectant mothers’ readiness to ful0xFB01ll parental responsibilities), formative ex-
periment (the development and implementation of social preventive program
«I am a future mother!»), quiz (reevaluation of expectant mothers’ readiness
to ful0xFB01ll parental requirements using a set of diagnostic techniques to iden-
tify the formation of cognitive, socioeconomic, emotional and motivational
indicators). Three main indicators of expectant mothers’ readiness to ful0xFB01ll
parental responsibilities and the criteria for each of them are characterized:
cognitive (knowledge about family, methods and principles of its creation, the
knowledge of the rules for its e0exFB00ctive functioning, formation of knowledge
that are crucial in understanding the essence of the social role of a mother
and may be displayed in certain judgments, perceptions, understanding the
social signi0xFB01cance of the family, the need of the qualities necessary for suc-
cessful performance as a mother), emotional and motivational (emotionally
positive attitude towards family, the motivation for its creation, evaluation of
norms and rules of e0exFB00ctive family life, constant development of knowledge
and skills, emotionally positive attitude to motherhood; incentives for child-
birth; formation of valuebased orientations), socioeconomic (su0xFB03cient mate-
rial wealth of a family, job availability, family support, having family’s own
house and adequate living conditions; positive family and parental behavior
model; guidance on motherhood and adherence to a child; the educational
potential of a woman). It is also important to emphasize that the question-
naire under the title «My Attitude to Paternity and Family Life» is created, and
it contains 17 questions, developed in accordance to indicators established by
our research. In this work, we emphasize the importance of practical applica-
tion of the preventative social program «I am an expectant mother!» in the
prenatal clinic of the KamianetsPodilskyi Counseling Center for Families, Chil-
dren and Youth. The perspective and priority directions for further research in
the 0xFB01eld of social work with women and families with a risk of abandonment
of a child are determined.
