Abstract

The article discusses the research of melting in a disk extruder. Disk machines are used in cascade schemes of the extrusion, where it is necessary to ensure fast melting of a polymer. They have high mixing ability, melt homogeneity, short processing time (10-12 s), simple design and low specific indicators. However, such extruders do not provide enough pressure of the polymer and are used as fluxing homogenizers in cascade schemes of the extrusion. The power used in the melting zone, is the most energy-intensive process. The article considers the mathematical model of melting of Tadmor, using the boundary conditions of the second kind, which correspond more to the process. The solution of the mathematical model permits to determine the power of melting and the main parameters of the disk. The results can be used to calculate the geometric sizes of the disk extruder
