Abstract

The article analyzes the main parameters of dosing in a channel of a single screw extruder and suggests a general approach to the mathematical modeling of screw extruders that best meets the real conditions of polymer processing. The article considers the model of hydrodynamics of flow of melt in dosing zone. We have used the Newtonian fluid model, and have accepted that the current is stable, the melt viscosity does not depend on temperature, the channel width is unlimited, and the curvature of the channel is negligible (approximation of flat surfaces). The process was considered in the plane-parallel coordinate system with a fixed cylinder and rotating screw.

We have obtained the formula for the components of velocity and have defined the speed of screw rotation. The article presents the calculation to determine the power of dissipation in the dosing zone. We have increased an average temperature in this zone, which permits us to provide recommendations for upgrading of existing or for application of new extrusion equipment for polymer processing
