The article regards general principles of standardization of the lifecycle of software. These principles are one of the most effective tools in dealing with orders, purchasing, development, operation and maintenance of software. The article presents the analysis of standardized approaches set in the international and national standards, including the standards in force of the USSR. It is shown that when analyzing the life cycle of software one should take into account that the GOST R ISO / IEC 12207, which is taken as a basis, has two significant advantages. Firstly, this standard has a definite orientation as to the organization of activity (rather than the specific details of the results of this activity). In this, it is fully corresponds to all modern standards, as well as to other techniques and approaches to work organization. Secondly, the selected standard provides a high degree of adaptability of organization of work. It permits to take into account the dynamics of modification of increasing requirements to projects and systems, which inherent to the present state of the development of the software.
