A conceptual model of the configuration management process in projects was created. It was shown that in order to achieve the goal of this process, it is necessary to manage the configuration of the project, product and project environment. Also it was shown that, throughout the life cycle of a project, all three kinds of configuration should be coordinated with each other, i.e., the whole configuration in the project should be holistic. To do this, the general change management process should be implemented in the project. A connection between the tasks of configuration synthesis and configuration management in the project during its life cycle was shown. The article describes the composition of the general configuration management process in projects, and shows the role and position of each of its components. It was determined that the project configuration management process plays the leading role in relation to the project product configuration management process and project environment configuration management process.
