Abstract

The article reveals the possibilities of mediation in various spheres of life in the Scandinavian countries (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland). The author analyzes the basic concepts of "conflict" and "mediation" in scientific and legal discourse. It is established that mediation is a method of empowering people to make informed decisions, which is ultimately the global goal of the social work profession, to teach the client to take responsibility, act, be an active member of society. The relationship between mediation and social work is substantiated, and the relevance of studying the Scandinavian countries experience in the field of mediation is determined. The author studies the historical aspects of the mediation appearance and development in the Scandinavian countries. In the Scandinavian countries, system of mediation consists of the three main dimensions – theoretical models of mediation, a practical system of mediation and mediation in action, and their direct relationship has been proven. The main theoretical models of mediation (evaluative, reflexive, facilitative, transformational) are characterized. It is established that the practical system of mediation functions has been realized in three planes - the system of communal mediation (community mediation, multicultural mediation, neighborhood mediation, school mediation, street mediation), mediation system in legal context (court-connected mediation, lawyer mediation, victim-offender mediation, family and child mediation), other mediation systems (workplace mediation, commercial mediation, international mediation, environmental mediation). The peculiarities of the organizational aspects of mediation in practice are analyzed and the main techniques used in the framework of theoretical models of mediation in practice are characterized. Constructive ideas of borrowing the Scandinavian countries experience in the context of the introduction of mediation practices in social work in Ukraine are identified.
