Procedure for retracting published articles (retraction)

The retraction of a published article is a mechanism for correcting published information and notifying readers that the publication contains flaws or errors. The grounds for retraction are violations of legal, publication, and ethical standards.

The Editorial Board keeps to COPE’s guidelines on corrections and retractions and adheres to the principles of academic integrity and responsibility towards readers.

Grounds for retracting an article may include:

  • the detection of plagiarism in the article;
  • duplication of the article in other publications;
  • flawed arguments that undermine the scientific value of the publication;
  • the detection of falsifications or fabrications in the text of the article;
  • incorrect authorship;
  • republication of the article without the author’s consent;
  • an article that has not undergone the peer-review process.

The retraction of an article may be initiated:

  • upon an official written request from the author(s) of the article;
  • upon an official written request from the editorial board of another journal;
  • upon a written request from other persons (parties to a conflict of interest) where there is evidence of breaches of research ethics by the author of the article;
  • if the journal’s editorial board discovers evidence of a breach of research ethics by the author in the text of the article.

The procedure for retracting a scientific article is as follows:

Following a request from the author or another person, the journal’s editorial board appoints a commission to verify the data.

If a decision is made to retract the article, the minutes of the commission meeting shall specify the reason and date of the retraction.

Information about retracted texts is sent to scientometric databases and libraries where the journal is hosted.

Following the decision to retract the article, the article and its description remain on the journal’s website. The electronic version is marked with the label ‘Retracted’ and the date of retraction. This is also noted in the table of contents of the issue.

The editorial board reserves the right to decide on further cooperation with the author of the retracted article.
