The purpose of the article is the analysis the interpretation of the concepts of culture and civilization in the Anglo-American and Western European scientific discourse. Methodology. The authors have used integrative anthropological approach, comparative historical analysis, and philosophical hermeneutics. The scientific novelty lies in the formulation and development of a multifaceted problem that requires interdisciplinary research by both world and Ukrainian science; revealing the correlation between the concepts of culture and civilization in the Anglo-American and Western European traditions; as well as authors’ interpretation of this correlation. Conclusions. The concepts of culture and civilization are not identical, although they are closely related to one another. Culture can exist on its own, whereas civilization cannot be called a civilization unless it includes a particular culture. Civilization is “empty” if it is not based on its own culture. Culture comprises material and non-material aspects. Intangible elements of customs and traditions, as well as beliefs, attitudes, preferences, etc., affect a person dramatically. Civilization could be viewed as a whole, and this integrated whole is mostly material, although its essential component – culture – could be non-material. The process of globalization changes civilization as well as culture, which, in turn, will determine the face of the coming civilization.
