The purpose of the study is to determine the sociocultural significance of the theatre as an instrument of societal reflection and transformation by analysing its functions, influence on social processes, and role in shaping national identity and intercultural dialogue. The research methodology is based on an interdisciplinary approach combining cultural, sociological, historical, and art studies analyses. To explore the theatre as a complex sociocultural system, the study employs methods such as systems analysis, comparative-historical method for examining the evolution of theatre across eras, and content analysis to investigate the themes of theatrical productions and their sociocultural context. The scientific novelty lies in the systematisation of the sociocultural functions of the theatre in contemporary globalised society. The article reveals the impact of theatrical art on the development of national identity, the formation of social values, the resolution of social conflicts, and the creation of intercultural dialogue. The study establishes that the theatre serves as a platform for discussing pressing social issues and acts as a powerful means of social critique. Conclusions. Theatre is a unique sociocultural phenomenon that plays a multifaceted role in society. It contributes to the preservation of national identity, shapes public consciousness, supports intercultural dialogue, and serves as a potent tool for social critique. In the context of modern European integration aspirations and global civilizational challenges, Ukrainian theatre emerges as an essential instrument for shaping societal outlooks, addressing social issues, and strengthening intercultural dialogue. The significance of theatre extends beyond its aesthetic function; it is a powerful communication tool that fosters social transformations and the development of national self-awareness. Its influence spans a wide spectrum from addressing current social problems through stage productions to integrating Ukrainian culture into the globalised world and finding harmony between national traditions and contemporary challenges. In today’s globalised society, the theatre continues to evolve, maintaining its relevance and universality.
