The purpose of the article is to study the participation of Ukrainian artists in the Contemporary Discoveries online auction by Sotheby’s, as a response to the russian-Ukrainian war. The research methodology consists in the application of analysis, synthesis, and chronological and comparative methods. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the comprehensive analysis of the portfolios of Ukrainian participants in this Sotheby’s project, the thematic direction of their works, and the evaluation of their investment attractiveness in the art market. Based on this analysis, the study attempts to argue for the rising status of Ukrainian contemporary art amid the ongoing military conflict. Conclusions. The very fact of holding the Contemporary Discoveries online auction in 2022 by Sotheby’s illustrates the growing interest of the international art market players in the works of Ukrainian artists. While not all pieces were sold during the online auction, their inclusion in the Sotheby’s project enhances the provenance of each lot. The event reflects trends in contemporary art, emphasising its role as both a chronicler of the war and an arbiter on the international stage, offering a clear perspective on russia’s war against Ukraine. Furthermore, the auction underscores the strengthening global position of several generations of Ukrainian artistic identity.
