Role of Symposia in the Formation of the Collection of Decorative Ceramic Sculpture at the National Museum-Reserve of Ukrainian Pottery in Opishne

Abstract

The purpose of the article to determine the role of decorative ceramic sculpture as the main product of symposia in the formation of the museum's collection. Research methodology. To achieve the purpose of the study, general scientific and special methods were used, in particular: analytical to summarise the results of existing scientific research on the topic of the article, historical and cultural methods allowed us to trace the historical evolution of the museum's collection, starting from the moment the museum was founded in 1986 until 2024, as well as artistic and stylistic methods. Scientific novelty The purpose of the work is to substantiate the importance of modern ceramic sculpture, which forms the basis of the collection of the National Museum-Reserve of Ukrainian Pottery, and to analyse the significance of the key symposia of decorative sculpture held in Opishne for the development and replenishment of this collection. The study demonstrates that thanks to the symposia, the museum has received a significant number of exhibits that reflect modern trends in Ukrainian ceramic art and became the basis for further scientific study and preservation of cultural heritage. Conclusions. The article identifies the leading role of symposia on decorative ceramic sculpture and the works created at them as a fundamental element in the formation of the collection of the National Museum-Reserve of Ukrainian Pottery in Opishne. Thanks to the use of analytical, historical-culturological and artistic-stylistic methods, the evolution of the collection was traced from the moment the museum was founded in 1986 to the series of symposia that began in 1997, giving a start to the formation of an open-air exhibition of monumental sculpture, and until 2024, when the last symposium was held in Opishne at the time of writing the article.
