The purpose of the article is to find out the possibilities of ethnodesign in preserving the national historical and cultural heritage. The research methodology is based on historical, analytical and semiotic research methods. The scientific novelty of the article is to investigate the potential of ethnodesign in preserving the historical and cultural heritage of Ukraine during the Russian-Ukrainian war through the symbolic code of Ukrainian folk art. Conclusions. During military conflicts, historical and cultural heritage suffers losses. Today, in Ukraine, during a full-scale war, both tangible and intangible heritage are under threat. Since in ethnodesign objects, the combination of traditions and innovation through signs and symbols embodies the cultural traditions of Ukrainian folk art, ethnodesign can become a means of preserving and popularising the national historical and cultural heritage. It is proved that the artistic and design practices of ethnodesign will allow to introduce national cultural heritage into the life of society in a new way, which will contribute to the self-identification of Ukrainians. Turning to traditional art is becoming a unifying factor, as objects of historical and cultural heritage establish a connection between different segments of society, which helps to consolidate Ukrainians. In addition, modern design developments can interest people and, through the demonstration of cultural codes and symbols, contribute to the preservation of the national historical and cultural heritage.
