A new stage in the development of Ukrainian musical culture, which began in the 16th century, is analysed. The creative path of singers, composers and theorists of the Kyiv School of the specified period is studied. The reasons for the confrontation and mass return of Kyiv singers and composers from Muscovy are clarified. The main reason for the refusal of the tsarist envoys to send Ukrainian singers to Moscow was the aggravation of relations between the states.
