The purpose of the article is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the phenomenon of ‘Shchedryk’ as a cultural code of Ukrainian identity and a global musical phenomenon, to identify the factors that contributed to the dissemination and popularity of the composition worldwide, and to evaluate the impact of ‘Shchedryk’ on shaping Ukraine’s cultural image. The research methodology. The study employs an interdisciplinary approach that includes: a comprehensive perspective, examining ‘Shchedryk’ in the context of Ukrainian folklore, musical art, and socio-cultural heritage; a chronological method, exploring the evolution of the composition from its folk origins to contemporary interpretations; a socio-cultural approach, analysing the influence of ‘Shchedryk’ on the formation of Ukrainian identity and its role in intercultural exchanges; а comparative analysis, studying analogies between Ukrainian shchedrivky (carolling songs) and other global musical traditions. The scientific novelty lies in the author’s broader cultural analysis of ‘Shchedryk’, beyond a purely musicological approach. The study examines its role in shaping Ukrainian identity and its influence on world culture. The article explores the use of ‘Shchedryk’ in various cultural contexts, from traditional Ukrainian settings to contemporary mass cultural phenomena. Conclusions. Shchedrivky, including ‘Shchedryk’, have mythological roots tied to pre-Christian rituals. Over time, they transformed into ceremonial songs while retaining elements of glorification and wishes for prosperity. Through Mykola Leontovych’s choral arrangement, ‘Shchedryk’ evolved into a unique musical phenomenon symbolising Ukrainian culture and its contribution to global musical heritage. The composition has become a cultural code that unites Ukrainians and introduces the world to Ukraine’s traditions, contributing to its cultural diplomacy. Various interpretations of ‘Shchedryk’, from classical to modern, have made it recognisable in many countries. The English-language arrangement, ‘Carol of the Bells’, is particularly popular. In the context of modern events, ‘Shchedryk’ serves as a symbol of resilience, inspiration, and cultural unity. Its presence in global culture fosters increased interest in Ukrainian traditions. ‘Shchedryk’ showcases Ukrainian culture’s ability to internationalise while maintaining its authenticity, remaining a source of national pride.
