Abstract

The purpose of the article is to outline the paradigm of the art school of the Krakow Academy of Arts teacher Józef Pankiewicz, as a source of inspiration for post-impressionism in the work of artists of Western Ukraine. The research methodology in the research process, a comprehensive approach was used to comprehensively cover the pedagogical principles of the Józef Pankiewicz school. Also, thanks to the archival and historical method used in the research, a number of important facts related to the activities of the Krakow Academy in general and the school in particular were established. A formal and stylistic research method was used to outline the artistic features of the works. Scientific novelty lies in the fact that for the first time the activities of Józef Pankiewicz's school are highlighted not only through the prism of the activities of the «Committee Paris» and its direct participants, but also other artists who attended his classes in Krakow and Paris. Conclusions. The significance of the Józef Pankiewicz school is most clearly traced through the creative genesis of the artist's students, such figures as Roman Selsky, Margit Selska (Reich) and Severyn Borachok, and others became consistent relays of Western European experience. Thus, Ukrainian artists of the «Józef Pankiewicz school» formed an intellectual environment that functioned as an open system, ensuring a constant exchange of ideas between the leading art centers of Europe and regional centers. Thus, the fundamental significance of Józef Pankiewicz's pedagogical system for the history of Ukrainian visual culture lies in ensuring the organic integration of Western Ukrainian painting into the pan-European modern era. Thanks to Józef Pankiewicz's pedagogical methodology, Ukrainian art of the 20th century received not only a «bright palette», but also a methodological basis for professional autonomy. Thus, the work of Józef Pankiewicz and his students became an integral part of Ukrainian art, which to this day determines the continuation of the traditions of the Lviv school of painting and its attraction to European modernist values.
