Abstract

The purpose of the article is to identify the features of the activities of inclusive theatres in Ukraine through the prism of the problems of implementing the idea of diversity. Research methodology. The terminological method, the method of typological analysis, the method of functional analysis, the method of synthesis, as well as the method of systematisation and generalisation were applied in order to consider and scientifically substantiate the concept of inclusive. Scientific novelty. The concept of inclusion as an important social concept of the 21st century is considered. The meaning, characteristic features, specifics, varieties and social mission of inclusive theatre are clarified. Inclusive theatre is investigated as an independent direction of modern theatrical art in Ukraine. On the example of the activities of inclusive theatres and introduction of inclusive practices into the activities of other theatre institutions, the features of the implementation of the idea of diversity and barrier-freeness in Ukraine are outlined. Conclusions. The study found that in inclusive theatre, the principles of cultural inclusion, equality, diversity, justice and barrier-freeness are actively applied in relation to people with various disabilities and abilities. The main characteristics of inclusive theatre are active and real participation, removal of barriers, thematic diversity, joint processes, openness, accessibility and creation of conditions for ensuring the full participation of everyone who wishes in theatrical activities. The theatre performs an important social mission, which in particular consists in helping to overcome stereotypes about people with special needs and the importance of creating a barrier-free space. Inclusive theatre is an important tool for stimulating social change and strengthening social cohesion by promoting critical reflection and cultural activism. By inspiring, challenging and facilitating transformation, inclusive theatre contributes to building a more just and humane world, in which the idea of quality and accessibility are fundamental. Despite the active development of inclusive practices in Ukraine in general and inclusive theatre in particular, it is worth emphasising the need to overcome conceptual barriers that pervert the full participation of people with disabilities, creating an inclusive environment in all aspect of society.
