The article describes the modern methods of steel ingot solidification process. Based on the analysis of these methods was developed a new complex method of steel ingot solidification research, which allows to analyze the evolution of both horizontal and vertical solidification fronts, as well as the length of the two-phase zone. Application of this method made it possible to develop steel ingot solidification constant as well as regularities of solidification
