The results of the investigation of submerged arc surfacing using composite strip electrode to obtain the multilayer composition are presented. The influence of the shape and size of composite strip electrode, flux content, and the value of total welding current on the value of bypass current, operating conditions, and the dilution ratio is shown. The increasing value of bypass current at the process of submerged arc surfacing using composite strip electrode results in decrease of the depth of the fusion penetration and the dilution ratio (portion of the parent metal involved in the deposited layer). The experimental data show that the increasing of the total current value leads to the reduction of dilution ratio for deposited metal obtained by submerged arc surfacing using single strip electrode as well as composite strip electrode. The results of the investigation improve the technology of surfacing of deposited multilayered composition by using composite strip electrode with altering chemical content of the strips. The use of the strips of altering chemical content in composite strip electrode and low dilution ratio make it possible to receive a heterogeneous multilayered composition with relatively discrete change in content and mechanical properties at the boundary of the layers. This composition can be resistant to the crack propagation resulting in increasing the fracture toughnessReferences
