Method of forecasting performance characteristics of space sweeper

The article considers the goal of cleaning low earth orbits of space refuse and offers a solution in the form of a special space unit, i.e. a space sweeper, which consists of a propulsion device and the system of collecting and disposing small space refuse parts, and herewith makes a spherical refuse-collecting unit. The principle objective of the research is the development of the method of forecasting performance characteristics of the unit, on the assumption of ensuring the high purpose-oriented efficiency of the suggested cleaning method. The sweeper operation efficiency is presumably estimated by the unit collecting surface area, crossing the preset strata of the circumterrestrial space. The suggested method lets us define the principle characteristics of a space sweeper for any possible maneuver of the unit at the cleaning stage, starting with the moment of its primary delivery on the orbit, as well as various ways of an orbital injection of a sweeper, a refuse-collecting unit, different types of rocket carriers and propulsion devices. This method can be useful in forecasting the space sweeper performance characteristics, corresponding to its optimal mode of ascent and maneuvering. Thus, it allows us to choose an effective alternative of the space unit for collecting small space refuse in low earth orbits. The use of such units will facilitate secure space flights.References
