Abstract

The purpose of article is to analyze and systematize the collection of artworks by Heorhii Cherniavskyi (1924–1981), a representative of the Soviet realistic school of painting and People's Artist of Ukraine, housed in the Dnipro Art Museum. It also aims to present the landscape genre as the key focus of the artist’s work. The research methodology is based on a systematic approach, employing general scientific and specialized methods, including analytical, historical-chronological, systematization, and generalization methods. This approach allowed for a comprehensive examination of the subject matter and the formulation of well-grounded conclusions. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the comprehensive approach to analyzing and summarizing various aspects of the collection of Heorhii Cherniavskyi’s works. This collection is a significant part of the Dnipro Art Museum's holdings and represents the largest body of the artist's works in the state portion of Ukraine's Museum Fund. Conclusions. The results of the research establish the quantitative and genre-thematic structure of Heorhii Cherniavskyi’s collection in the Dnipro Art Museum. As of March 1, 2025, the collection includes 75 items from the main collection, covering a period of 26 years – the majority of the artist’s creative career (from 1954 to 1980). This allows researchers to gain a fairly comprehensive understanding of the artist’s artistic preferences. It has been demonstrated that landscape is a key genre in the artist's work. The landscape genre in Heorhii Cherniavskyi’s pieces of artworks from the Dnipro Art Museum collection is represented in various types and styles, which enabled the researcher to classify the landscapes by themes and narrative content, identifying the most numerous groups.
