Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyse the artistic image of the urban space of Kyiv in Ukrainian fine art of the early 21st century, to identify the main artistic trends and approaches to its representation and to determine their connection with the socio-cultural processes of modernity. The research methodology is based on an art historical and cultural approach, due to the multidimensional nature of urban space as an artistic and socio-cultural phenomenon. The work also uses the method of art historical analysis to study the stylistic and compositional features of works, iconographic and iconological methods to identify their semantic and symbolic meanings. Historical-cultural and analytical methods are used to consider artistic interpretations of the urban space of Kyiv through the prism of socio-cultural processes of the early 21st century. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the systematisation and generalisation of the main trends in the representation of the urban space of Kyiv in Ukrainian fine art of the early 21st century based on the analysis of a wide range of modern artistic practices. The work attempts to consider the image of the capital as a holistic artistic phenomenon, which is formed under the influence of historical, cultural, and social factors. The idea of the specificity of artistic approaches to the depiction of the Kyiv urban environment in modern Ukrainian art is clarified and supplemented, and their connection with the processes of transformation of public consciousness, historical memory and cultural identity of the beginning of the 21st century is traced. The results obtained expand the existing art historical ideas about the role of urban space as an important semantic and figurative component of modern artistic culture. Conclusions. Thus, the conducted research allows us to consider the urban space of Kyiv as a complex multidimensional artistic phenomenon, which is formed in close connection with the socio-cultural processes of modernity. The artistic strategies of city representation in Ukrainian fine art of the beginning of the 21st century are analysed and the main trends of artistic understanding of the Kyiv urban environment are studied, which allows us to reveal the specifics of modern visual interpretations of the capital in connection with the processes of transformation of cultural consciousness and historical memory.
