The purpose of the article is to determine the conditions for the transition in the music of modern Ukrainian composers of the first quarter of the 21st century to postmodern aesthetics, when radical transformations in the social environment led to the perception of the world as absurd and unpredictable, which also affected the principles of building the artistic and creative process by destroying all established rules and patterns, and interpreting expressive musical means as combinations of different levels of artistic perception. The research methodology is based on the views of Dilthey (2) on postmodernism as an era of development of social reality at the level of changing consciousness and the conclusion of Welsch (1) on the transition of narrative orientation in society to a state of radical plurality. The scientific novelty lies in revealing, in the context of postmodernism, the features of the conceptuality of creative narratives of music by modern Ukrainian composers as an expression of visual, sensory, linguistic, associative-multiple-meaning, abstract, sensations and rethinking many classical concepts: spirituality, mysticism, poetics, artistic image, symbol. Conclusions. The narrative conceptuality of the composer’s work of the first quarter of the 21st century is expressed through specific stylistic techniques, the use of allusions to certain epochal styles, the borrowing of intonations and sound forms of cinema, the unusual use of folklore or popular song creativity. Thus, the artificially organised sound chaos destroys the generally accepted logic of the development of musical material and forms a new narrative essence of the author’s position, associated with the perception of the world in postmodern aesthetics as absurd and unpredictable.
